Professional development has always been present in my life, and although I haven’t planned anything in advance this year, I’m happy with the results!
January. Observing young children.
The webinar was delivered by Dr Stella Louis to celebrate the release of a Froebel Trust pamphlet, Observing young children, which you can check here.
February. Playful Schools Conference.
That was my second Playful Schools Conference. It is free and hosted by The LEGO Foundation, Harvard Project Zero and International School of Billund. Next year it takes place in March and you can sign up here.
March. TESOL Spain Convention.
In March, I was lucky enough to attend and present at TESOL Spain Convention. My session focused on using pedagogical documentation as a way to embrace diversity in the early years.
There were a lot of interesting talks at the Convention, here I summarised the one I particularly enjoyed, which was delivered by Borja Uruñuela, Dream BIG! From words to sentences. A lot of practical ideas!
April. ELTRIA - ELT RESEARCH IN ACTION.
The ELTRIA conference is organised by the EIM (Escola d’Idiomes Moderns) of the University of Barcelona. Loads of quality talks!
In April, I also started a new teaching position. Now I work as an English teacher at Escola Vedruna, and I'm happy to say that my colleagues are a valuable source of confidence and inspiration!
May. TEFL Development Hub.
In May, I recorded a short video for the Hub. I must say that it is one of my favourite groups. Just check this collection of webinars!
June. Primary Language Network.
In June, I enjoyed a serie of talks at Zoomed out! Languages Virtual Conference organised by the Primary Language Network.
July. Inclusion.
In July, I did a 40-hour course which helped me understand high ability students much better. If you speak Catalan, then I highly recommend taking this course. It is run by PrisMa.
August. ETAS.
In August, my article Literacy development. Perspectives from Spain was published as part of Focus: Young Learners in the peer-reviewed English Teachers Association of Switzerland (ETAS) Journal. You can read it here.
September. TESOL Spain.
In September, I enjoyed watching the webinar about using games in English classes which was delivered by Zdravka Majkić for TESOL Spain.
October. Cambridge Live.
In October, I watched some of the Cambridge Live 2022 sessions but, unfortunately, didn't have time to summarise the ones I liked.
November. Course design.
In November, I gave two talks on course design for young learners - a webinar for TESOL Spain and a face-to-face presentation at TESOL France Colloquium (I am so happy to be back to in-person conferences!).
Apart from these talks, I also wrote a blog post about using nursery rhymes in the early years for IATEFL YLTSIG, which you can find here.
December. Inclusion.
Finally, in December, I did a 30-hour course on inclusion and learning disorders (run by SomDocents).
Besides, my presentation on designing an effective course for young learners was turned into an article for Teaching Times.
This year I've also watched lots of webinars and would like to highlight the following talks:
by Laura McWilliams for British Council
A series of six webinars looking at different aspects of creativity in the language classroom
by Claire Steele and Sarah Smith for British Council
